Celebrity Wine Review: Quarantine Pinot Noir

Celebrity wine

We all know celebrity wines can be hit or miss. But wine and a good cause? Sign me up! Mila Kunis and her husband Ashton Kutcher came up with a great way to support front line workers during the peak of the pandemic last year. Many cities were still under stay at home orders and drinking more wine than usual.  They partnered with Nocking Point to release a “Quarantine” Pinot Noir. What’s great is that 100% of the proceeds went to four charities.

According to their website, all profits from the sale went to the following four charities:

1) GiveDirectly – giving cash grants directly to families on SNAP in areas highest hit by COVID-19

2) Direct Relief – providing medical equipment / PPE to frontline workers and EMS workers

3) Frontline Responders Fund — Buying and delivering PPE and ventilators to medical facilities

4) America’s Food Fund – Collaboration between Feeding America and World Central Kitchen, ensuring reliable and safe access to food in the US

Quarantine BottleBefore we get to how the wine taste, I want to say how much I love the bottle. It’s  a cool concept where you can write who or what  you are toasting to. I’ve seen novelty labels like this for parties but never wine bought directly from a producer.

So on to the wine. Pinot Noir is my favorite style of red wine so I was excited to try it. In the US, Pinot Noir is primarily grown in Oregon which is where The Kutchers sourced their grapes for Quarantine. Pinot Noir grow best in cool climates which allow them to maintain their acidity. The wine was typical of Oregon Pinot Noir, light bodied with soft tannins. On the nose there were aromas of cherry and strawberry and on the palate there was vanilla and a smooth mouthfeel.

The wine has made me more open to trying other celebrity wines. Although the wine took several months to come but I’ll say it was definitely worth the wait. Besides, what’s better than being able to drink wine knowing you supported a good cause?
